Asset browser
Thumbnails
Anchorpoint works like a normal file browser, can manage metadata and has several utilities to organize art assets (Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, Zbrush, Substance or similar).
It does not duplicate files and does not create a cryptic database. Anchorpoint stores metadata in the cloud so it can be shared with other team members.
Anchorpoint can natively display thumbnails for the following file formats: C4D, Blend, Max, OBJ, FBX, GLTF, SBSAR, SBS (requires an active Substance installation), PSD, PSB, HDR, EXR, AI, Uasset, Umap and all other common text, image and video formats.
If a thumbnail cannot be displayed, you can use the Replace Thumbnail feature in the context menu to set a thumbnail on each file. You can also access it by selecting a file and pressing SHIFT+S.
Color management
To correctly display renderings saved via EXR files, Anchorpoint supports ACES color profiles. You can use the existing configuration or choose your own configuration file. Anchorpoint saves this setting per project, so no one in the team has to worry about it. Only the "Display" setting is saved locally, because it depends on local configurations like a calibrated monitor.
To detect the correct color profile of an EXR file Anchorpoint uses the following rule:
- if the color profile is mentioned in the file name, this is used (e.g. render_acescg.exr).
- if point 1 is not given, then the setting from the dropdown "Color Config" is used
External configurations
Anchorpoint supports OCIO configurations which can be downloaded e.g. here. Make sure that everyone in the team has access to this configuration. Configurations can also be stored as environment variables. This is often used in pipelines to share configurations between different applications.
Sharing file locations
Sending a folder or file path to a team member is pretty daunthing. Filepaths are different on Windows and MacOS and when you work on a Dropbox, not everybody is syncing their files to a folder with the same path. Anchorpoint allows you to use app links, that make location sharing as easy as sharing a website link. Open the context menu on any file or folder and choose Copy App Link. You can also press Ctrl-Shift-C. Then, paste the link in Slack, Notion or any web application.
Opening an app link
Once a user clicks on a link, Anchorpoint will be opened and navigates to the file or folder. The member has to be part of the project and the project has to be connected to the project files, otherwise Anchorpoint won't be able to find the correct file.
